Main window
This topic briefly explains the menus and controls in the main
window.
The menu
The toolbar
The toolbar gives you quick access to some of the menu commands. You can
customize the buttons on the toolbar by
doublecklicking an unoccupied part of the toolbar or using the
Options/Customize Toolbar command.
The window bar
The window bar displays a tab for each editor window. By left clicking a tab, the
corresponding editor window is activated, by right clicking a tab, the system menu of
the editor window is displayed. The visibility of the window bar can be toggled using
the View\Show Window Bar command.
The status bar
The statusbar consists of nine segments:
- The first segment displays the size of the file in the active
editor
- The second segment displays the current caret position in the active
editor window. If a range of disk sectors is currently being edited, the
absolute address on disk the caret is pointing to is also displayed (in
parenthesis)
- The third segment shows the start and end position of a selected
block
- The fourth segment shows an asterisk (*) if the active file has been
modified
- The fifth segment shows an "R" if the active file has been
opened readonly
- The sixth segment shows an "F" if the active file's size is
fixed (when editing disk sectors or process memory blocks or when
it has been configured in the Options
Dialog)
- The seventh segment tells you if Insert (INS) or Overwrite (OVW) mode
is active
- The eighth segment tells you the current character translation mode
(like ANSI (WIN), EBCDIC (BCD) and so on)
- The last segment is a multiple purpose field, it shows hints and
load/save/script progress
